November 2021 – AISC Advanced Certified Steel Erectors

November 2021

Pioneer Steel, Inc. is proud to announce it has recently completed an American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) audit of our Quality Management System or QMS.

Pioneer Steel has been an AISC Advanced Certified Steel Erector since 2007.  This year marks a significant change in how AISC designates certified companies and conducts audits of those companies.

AISC now audits company compliance to the Standard for Structural Steel Erectors, AISC 206.  This document requires a much more  detailed audit of our QMS, and has provisions for endorsements instead of the “Advanced” designation.  These endorsements include; Bridge Erection, Seismic Erection, and Metal Deck Installation.  Pioneer Steel is now endorsed by AISC for all three!

Bridge Erection includes the ability to perform work to the AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code, the AISC 303 – Code of Standards Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges, properly trained and qualified individuals, and appropriate equipment resources to successfully complete these important infrastructure projects.

Seismic Erection includes the ability, resources, and qualified individuals to successfully execute projects, in highly active seismic zones, that specify adherence to the AWS D1.8 Seismic Welding Code which supplements the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code.  Complex design, fabrication, erection, and welding requirements, in accordance with the AISC 341 – Seismic Provisions and athe AWS D1.8 Code, gives our clients confidence that engineered Seismic Force Resisting Systems are constructed properly, and that Pioneer Steel’s quality will meet or exceed their expectations.

Metal Deck Installation endorsement assures customers of our ability to meet  or exceed the requirements dictated by the Steel Deck Institute – Standard for Quality Control and Quality Assurance and the SDI – Code of Standard Practice.  Our deck installers are qualified to the AWS D1.3 Structural Welding Code – Sheet Steel and trained in the safety and use of powder actuated fasteners when specified for the project.

AISC Certification requires that we regularly evaluate and strive to improve our safety and quality.  Pioneer Steel is committed to providing our clients value and quality in each and every project.
